ACUPUNCTURE FOR HORMONE THERAPY

Beauty secrets for older womenHome » Health and Fitness » Acupuncture Join Sign in EzineArticles - Expert Authors Sharing Their Best Original Articles Search Angela Byrne Basic Author | 1 Article Joined: December 19, 2016 New Zealand Acupuncture for Hormone Therapy By Angela Byrne | Submitted On December 19, 2016 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article As a woman, we know the state of our sexual health and changes in our periods can be a great indicator of overall health and health problems. A work colleague had recently been to see her doctor, saying she'd been gaining weight, had irregular periods and was just feeling generally fatigued and listless. It turns out she had an undiagnosed case of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) which was playing havoc with her hormones, massively increasing the amount of testosterone in her body. As anyone who has heard of this condition knows, it can have huge implications on how you live your life, including for fertility and reproductive health. As well as generally messing with the body by destroying the delicate balance of hormones it needs to keep itself stable and healthy. My friend said the doctor had prescribed her Metformin and hormone stabilising tablets. Apparently, they were working, but she wasn't particularly happy with the idea of taking pills for the rest of her life, so she was looking into other options. How does hormone imbalance affect me? A woman's body requires two main hormones to function. Estrogen and progesterone. It's these hormones that control the reproductive cycle, menstrual cycle and fertility in women, as well as having major effects on mood and general health. So it stands to reason that a hormone imbalance causes major issues with a woman's reproductive cycle, including irregular periods, menstrual problems, mood swings, weight gain, increased chance of osteoporosis, heart disease, and even breast cancer. Whilst there are multiple reasons that a woman could develop a hormone imbalance, such as stress, diet, or weight gain, the two biggest factors are generally birth control pills and the perimenopause stage of life. Hormone based birth control pills rely on high doses of estrogen to prevent ovulation, as well as progestin, synthetic progesterone, to thin out the lining of the uterus. Because of the way they work, hormonal birth control pills contain doses of estrogen up to four times higher than would naturally be found in a woman's body during her menstrual cycle. Then menopause also causes major changes in a woman's hormone cycle. As your ovaries age, they naturally release lower levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which cause major changes in your body and can have huge negative effects on health and quality of life for years to come. Whilst there are many ways to treat this, including hormone replacement therapy and other hormone balancing medication, there are a wealth of other options, including one that many people might otherwise overlook. Acupuncture! What is acupuncture? Used in the east as a traditional treatment for centuries, acupuncture is an alternative therapy that is becoming widely accepted, to the point that many reputed and high level medical sources have begun to offer acupuncture treatment alongside more conventional medical treatments. The therapy itself involves inserting thin needles into key points around the body, generally along nerve lines or around specific organs. According to the traditional understanding, the body is full of energy, generally called Chi, or Ki. It's this energy that keeps us alive, and it is believed that inhibiting the flow of it around the body, especially through key points, is what leads to illness and disease. Under Eastern philosophy, the needles used in acupuncture unlock the flow of energy in these points when they are blocked, balancing your life energy so that the body can heal itself naturally. In the west, where research on acupuncture is ongoing, the way it works is thought to be neurophysiological in nature, but it is still not completely understood. It is known that the insertion of acupuncture needles has definite effects on the body, causing nerve stimulation that release muscles and even override brain signals. There are also measurable changes in body chemicals in patients undergoing treatment. Whilst it may not be completely understood, the benefits of acupuncture treatment are widely accepted... To the point that it is regularly available as an alternative treatment from most medical practitioners, and more research studies are being completed every year in an effort to understand just how acupuncture delivers all of its healing properties. Can acupuncture balance our hormones? When it comes to hormone imbalance, the studies are clear. Women who received daily acupuncture sessions showed massive improvements in multiple areas, comparable to the results shown by women tested at the same time with prescription metformin pills. Both groups showed significant improvement in levels of male hormone in the blood, as well as massive changes in cholesterol levels, insulin markers and blood glucose. Incredibly, the women who were prescribed acupuncture actually lost more weight and saw a far quicker response when it came to balancing their menstrual cycles. On top of this, multiple other studies have shown that regular treatments of acupuncture can have healthful effects all over the body, including stabilising fat burning hormones productions by the kidneys and liver, as well as the production of the happy hormones dopamine and serotonin in the brain. As for my friend, she started a course of acupuncture at the local health centre. Within two weeks, she was getting back to her old self, and had nothing but good things to say about the staff and the treatment. According to her, she wasn't the only woman being treated for her condition there, and the amount of people and illnesses they saw was apparently staggering. So if you have a hormonal issue and your doctor prescribes you a course of pills, always remember that as always you do have other options. Acupuncture is available all over the country, so just search for your closest practitioner and book yourself a short course. The results might just surprise you! What To Know More? HOW TO LIFT BREASTS NATURALLY WITHOUT SURGERY

Beauty secrets for older womenHome » Women's Interests » Cosmetic Surgery Join Sign in EzineArticles - Expert Authors Sharing Their Best Original Articles Search Dr Kourosh Tavakoli Platinum Quality Author Platinum Author | 114 Articles Joined: February 23, 2016 Australia Natural Breast Lift Methods By Dr Kourosh Tavakoli | Submitted On April 27, 2016 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article Expert Author Dr Kourosh Tavakoli Before you actually go for breast lift surgery, there are several things you can do to improve your looks, to some extent. There are ways you can give yourself natural breast lifting without having to break the bank. Here are a few ways you can give your breasts a natural makeover: 1. Breast Enlargement Exercises Although breasts are made up of fat, they can be made firmer and perkier through exercise. There are muscles underneath the breast which can be stimulated to grow, thus lifting the breast and giving it a firmer appearance. Exercises such as push-ups, chest flies, press-ups and wall pushes all help in building chest muscles. You need to be consistent with these exercises in order to see results. Also, you can get more from such exercises by using equipment, such as dumbbells. 2. Natural Supplements Did you know that a mineral or vitamin deficiency can have an effect on how perky or droopy your breasts are? This is because some minerals have an effect on your hormonal levels, which in turn have an effect on your breasts. Too much testosterone as well as too little oestrogen will lead to you having smaller breasts. There are various supplements available on the market that are all geared towards giving you fuller and perkier breasts. These supplements work by increasing the amount of oestrogen in your body. 3. Breast Pumps Breast pumps are used to apply pressure onto breasts, creating a suction motion. The pressure on your breasts will stimulate tissue growth. Such breast pumps are available in both manual and electric versions. The suction force of these pumps pulls up the epidermis layer of your skin, leaving space underneath it. This space is eventually filled with breast tissue, thus giving your breasts a lift. 4. Breast Massage Did you know that gently massaging your breasts for half an hour everyday will stimulate tissue growth? There are numerous masseurs that offer breast massages, but if you are not comfortable with that, you can learn to do it on your own. The whole massage involves kneading the breasts gently, stroking the nipples, and massaging the breasts in both clockwise and anticlockwise motions. Your breasts will be stimulated to grow, giving them a fuller look, and eventually lifting them. What's more is that a study conducted by UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory shows that regular breast massages can prevent cancer. The physical pressure applied during a massage makes it hard for cancer cells to grow. 5. Quality Bras Did you know that the type of bras you wear can have an effect on the way your breasts look? You can give your breasts a lift by wearing a bra that fits properly. Some women's breasts droop as a result of not wearing the right kind of bras. So, you can give your breasts a lift simply by switching bras. If you're not sure about the correct size to wear, you can visit a lingerie or clothing store near you and get professionally fitted. HOW MUCH DOES A TUMMY TUCK COST

Beauty secrets for older womenHome » Women's Interests » Cosmetic Surgery Join Sign in EzineArticles - Expert Authors Sharing Their Best Original Articles Search Audrey M. Hardy Platinum Quality Author Platinum Author | 14 Articles Joined: September 29, 2009 United States How Much Does A Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Cost? By Audrey M. Hardy | Submitted On December 01, 2014 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article According to 2013 data from the ASPS or the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average tummy tuck cost is $5,217. This will, however, depend on the surgeon you select, the scope of treatment, geographic location of your surgeon's practice and other basic factors. Throughout your life, perhaps there is no other body area that is subjected to as many changes as your abdomen. Pregnancy, weight gain and loss, and many other experiences may take a deep toll on your skin and midsection tissues. Dieting and exercising cannot change their appearances. Hence, surgery becomes the only option to achieve the desired shape. Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty involves various combinations of procedures intended to help people achieve a toned, lean midsection. The technique almost always includes liposuction, removal of glut skin and thinning of underlying muscles, all performed at different levels. With so many possible variations on the procedure, it can be tricky to pin down an exact or estimated tummy tuck cost. Generally, you can anticipate that the tummy tuck cost is very much affected by your surgeon and the reason for treatment. In most cases, a physician can determine if the tummy tuck will provide medical advantages. This is particularly true for patients who have undergone a huge weight loss after Bariatric surgery. Under such conditions, insurance coverage may apply. In other cases, patients may merely want to get a cosmetic improvement, and should anticipate paying for the tummy tuck cost themselves. Either way it pays to carry out your research and decide what will bring you results you are looking for. Anesthesia Apart from the kind of surgeon you pick or the reason for treatment, to determine the tummy tuck cost, you must include any anesthesia fees too. These are often not included in the original estimate for a tummy tuck. Anesthesia is a kind of medication administered to stop a patient from feeling pain as the doctor removes the excess tissue, creates incisions and performs some steps in the procedure. The medication can be given either by a nurse or an anesthesiologist. In most cases, fees are billed hourly. The cost will also vary with the person administering the drug. It is much more expensive to use a certified anesthesiologist but is usually cheaper when administered by a nurse. Make sure you ask your plastic surgeon if these costs have been included or will be billed separately. After-Surgery Costs The tummy tuck cost estimates should also include additional expenses following your surgery. Some of these expenses are included in the entire cost of the treatment, whereas others are not. For instance, some surgeons will offer a free elastic prop up garment for their patients to put on as they recover and usually some pain killers to make you feel comfortable. All this helps to aid proper healing. If the garment requires replacement, costs vary from $50 to $150. Prescription pain medication after the surgery may not be included in the initial estimates. How Tummy Tuck Surgery Affects You Besides spending a sizeable amount of cash which may come out of your pocket, this surgery has its other effects too. Majority of patients are extremely happy with their tummy tucks. The operation completely transforms the whole midsection or stomach area, ending embarrassment and enhancing self-esteem. Plus you'll get lots of compliments on your new improved body and shape. In addition, your general health may improve from undergoing the surgery. The technique rids patients of big sagging skin folds, which are potentially infected with bacteria or fungus. Consequently, the tummy tuck is well-received by Bariatric patients who experience rashes and sores. The muscles in the belly wall can begin to separate from pregnancy or aging, something referred to as laxity. This may lead to reduced muscle potency and make the area look like it is sagging. Tummy tucks deal with this problem by fixing the muscles and making them much tighter. This is referred to as plication. In addition to this, the stretch marks are removed too, along with the excess skin. All these are included in the entire tummy tuck cost you have to pay, which makes it more cost-effective. Conclusion Whilst no surgeon can guarantee results which will meet your hopes beyond a shadow of doubt, you may reduce the risk of unfavorable outcome by not shopping price alone. In basic terms, the better the surgeon, the better the results and the likelihood of having to return for corrections is reduced. Thus, the importance of selecting a reputable and an excellent doctor should not be overstated. Tummy tucks are a safe and acceptable way to trim down your waist line without exercise or dieting. Costs vary from city to city and state to state. Find the best cosmetic surgeons in your area at [http://costoftummytuck.com/]. HAIR FALLING OUT DON'T WORRY ITS A CYCLE

Beauty secrets for older womenHome » Health and Fitness » Beauty Join Sign in EzineArticles - Expert Authors Sharing Their Best Original Articles Search Dr. Pran Rangan Platinum Quality Author Platinum Author | 22 Articles Joined: August 17, 2016 India Hair And Its Growth Cycle By Dr. Pran Rangan | Submitted On February 17, 2017 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article Expert Author Dr. Pran Rangan For many, hair can be source of worry as well as jealousy at times. For some, it is source of vanity too. If people have correct information and facts about hair, they will be spared of much worry or jealousy. An average person has up to 150,000 hair follicles on one's head, whereas the entire adult body has 5 million. That number is constant over a lifetime. Hair has two distinct structures - the follicle itself, which resides in the skin, and the shaft, which is what is visible above the scalp. Hair follicle - The hair follicle is a tunnel-like part of the epidermis that extends down into the dermis of the skin. At the base of the follicle is the papilla, which contains capillaries, or tiny blood vessels that nourish the cells. The living part of the hair is the very bottom part surrounding the papilla, called the bulb. The cells of the bulb divide every 23 to 72 hours, remarkably faster than any other cell in the body. Only one hair grows out of one follicle. At the base of the hair follicle are sensory nerve fibers that wrap around each hair bulb. Bending the hair stimulates the nerve endings allowing a person to feel that the hair has been moved. Hair follicle has two sheaths, which protect it and help form the growing hair shaft. There are several other structures associated with the hair follicle, including arrector pili, which is a tiny bundle of muscle fiber connected to a follicle. The contraction of these muscles is what causes goose bumps. Sebaceous glands are also attached to hair follicles, which produce oil, called sebum that moves up hair follicles to the surface of the skin, where it lubricates skin and hair. Hair shaft - The hair shaft is made of a hard protein called keratin and is made of three layers. In fact, the hair is not a living structure as this protein is dead. The inner layer of a hair is the medulla, the second layer the cortex and the outer layer the cuticle. The cortex makes up the majority of the hair shaft. The cuticle is a tightly formed structure made of shingle-like overlapping scales. It is both the cortex and the medulla that holds the hair's pigment, giving it its color. Hair growth cycle - There are four stages of hair growth cycle: • Anagen (Growing phase): Hair in the anagen phase may grow faster during the early years. Average growth rate is 1 - 1.5 cm per 28 days. This phase lasts for two to seven years and determines the length of our hair. • Catagen (Regression phase): This stage lasts about ten days. The hair follicle shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla. • Telogen (Resting phase): This is the resting phase of the follicle which lasts for approximately four months. About 10 to 15% of hairs are this stage. The follicle remains quiescent in its shortened state and awakens to regenerate with the onset of the new growth phase. • Exogen (Shedding phase): This is the period in which hair reaches its terminal position in the follicle. The resting hair is gradually loosened resulting in its shedding. The majority of shedding occurs during new growth phase. Over time, the length of the anagen stage decreases. Therefore, the hair may become weaker and thinner after each cycle. That's why it's important to ensure your diet is rich in specific nutrients to maintain normal, healthy hair growth. If hairs enter the resting phase too early, excess shedding and noticeable thinning of the hair can occur. Telogen effluvium - Telogen effluvium is a phenomenon that occurs after pregnancy, major surgery, drastic weight loss, or extreme stress, in which people shed large amounts of hair every day, usually when shampooing, styling, or brushing. It can also be a side effect of certain medications, such as antidepressants, beta-blockers, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. During telogen effluvium, hair shifts faster than normal from its growing phase into the resting phase before moving quickly into the shedding, or telogen, phase. The bottom line - Hair is far more complex than most of us understand. Besides creating gender identity, it plays a vital role in the appearance of both men and women. Therefore, any factual information about hair will help people take good care of them. The structure of hair is quite complex than it is mostly understood by people. It is also important to understand its process of growth because it will shed light on why hair fall occurs and number of hair fall that should be considered normal. This will reduce the anxiety of many people about their hair fall. AROMATHERAPY HELPS ROSAEA

Beauty secrets for older womenHome » Health and Fitness » Aromatherapy Join Sign in EzineArticles - Expert Authors Sharing Their Best Original Articles Search Fai Chan Basic PLUS Author | 14 Articles Joined: March 5, 2016 United States Her Face, Her Confidence, and Her Change - A Case Study on Healing Rosacea With Carrier Oils By Fai Chan | Submitted On September 18, 2016 Recommend Article Article Comments Print Article Expert Author Fai Chan Introduction Emmy is pursuing a nursing degree with the hope of working as a cosmetic nurse when she graduates. She is now working part time as an administrative assistant in a dermatologist office. She has rosacea on both sides of her cheekbones. The rosacea undermines her confidence considerably. To mask the symptom, she uses makeup. The makeup may be one of the contributing factors to her present situation. She has had this problem since childhood. Her mother works in a medical spa. She has tried many methods to alleviate her daughter's problem but never was able to cure it. The fact that Emmy likes to eat junk food and to use her hand to scratch her face makes the problem worse. Usually, people with long term illness have a tendency to engage in a unhealthy diet or habit. Healing Protocols I am a client of her mother's medical spa. I found out about her problem during a lunch meeting and offered help. I thought of using essential oils to treat her problem. However, I was concerned about the side effects of essential oils. "Less is more" appeared to be the right motto for this situation as the less the irritation in the healing process, the more effective the healing protocols. I gave her a balm to apply to the affected areas. The balm contained only carrier oils. Beeswax: 1 oz Coffee infused olive oil: 0.5 oz Calendula infused olive oil: 2.5 oz I made the above in lip balm form for easy application and hygiene consideration. There is lack of research data on using carrier oils as healing agents; therefore, I drew the conclusion from the information of comparatively trusted sources. Please bear in mind that more research data is needed on the application of each component. Beeswax is a common thickening agent and emulsifier used in skincare and cosmetic industry. In addition, according to webMD, it also carries the properties of mild anti inflammation. It is also soothing and emollient. In an article by webMD, it quoted the comments made by some researchers that coffee has antioxidant capacity which can reduce the damage made by free radicals [anti-inflammation]. Olive oil, on the other hand, is very emollient and anti-inflammatory as well. it helps relieve skin irritation. Calendula is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to help the growth of new cells - according to webMD. Encouraging Reports After receiving the balm, Emmy applied it once a day. After a week, the redness on her cheek started to go away. I recommend her to keep using it. A month later, more than 1/2 of her redness was gone. During the 6th week, she had some flare-ups (acnes caused by rosacea), and her redness seemed to come back, but that redness was under control. Her mother suspected that the symptoms were the result of unhealthy eating habit and scratching of her face. I then gave her another balm for the acnes: ½ oz (15 ml) Beeswax 1.5 oz (45 ml) Coconut Oil 10 drops Ginger essential oil 10 drops Tea Tree essential oil I made about 10 lip balms, which meant that the dilution of oil was only 2% per lip balm. I use Coconut Oil for its moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. It reduces the skin irritation that lead to inflammation. Instead of directly applying the essential oil(s) to the affected areas, the client feels more comfortable when essential oils are mixed with some carrier oils as a buffer, although doing so reduces the strength of essential oils. Beeswax is added for its solidification purpose and its anti-inflammatory property. Ginger essential oil and tea tree oil are anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. The balm proved to be very effective in healing her flare-ups. Within a week, all her redness and acnes were gone. Afterwards Emmy has more confidence in her appearance now as she is receiving compliments from her clients on her amazing skin. It is worth mentioning that she started a healthy diet and habit after the healing of her rosacea. Conclusion People used to think that essential oils are the key components of aromatherapy. In fact, carrier oils, when used correctly, are very good in healing irritated skin. More research data on the use of carrier oils is needed to determine their efficacy in other applications. The process is similar to tattooing, but there are important differences. Tattooing is permanent, and micro-pigmentation or semi-permanent makeup, as the name suggests, isn't. The reason that tattoos are permanent and micro pigmentation isn't, comes down to how deep the pigment is placed. Tattooing is much deeper, placing the pigment in the hypodermis (the third layer of the skin). Semi-permanent makeup (micro pigmentation) places the pigment in the epidermis and the dermis (the top two layers of skin). Here it can be broken down over time by the body, and this causes it to fade over time. Typically it takes about 18 months to fade. Semi-permanent cosmetic can be used to enhance eyebrows, lips and eyelash line. It can also be used to create the appearance of hair stubble for men who have lost their hair and want to look shaven rather than shiny bald. More advanced forms of micro pigmentation can be used to cover scars and even to reconstruct the areola for women having undergone mastectomy and breast reconstruction. Before the procedure begins, cosmetic pencils are used to simulate the results of the final treatment and to provide a template for the technician to follow. The technician will also discuss your skin tone to make sure the correct pigment colour is chosen. For some areas, an anaesthetic cream may be necessary so that you have a comfortable treatment. The pigment is then applied to the skin with the micro pigmentation device. The device uses a very fine needle to push the pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. A further treatment is usually needed around two weeks later to perfect the results. Your micro pigmentation technician should give you full after care instructions. Generally, they will advise you not to expose the area to sunlight and avoid swimming for several weeks, avoid makeup, don't pick any flaking skin, don't wear contact lenses if the eye area has been treated for the week or so after treatment. They may advise you use Vaseline over the treatment area for a few days. The micro pigmentation will last somewhere between 12 and 18 months on average. The initial results may look a little dark, but the pigment will lighten after a few days. There may also be some initial swelling or minor bruising which will resolve fairly quickly after treatment. All in all semi-permanent makeup is a fairly low-risk procedure with many benefits. For those wanting to look gorgeous straight out of bed in the morning, then it is the ideal solution. It is also a huge benefit to those who may be sight impaired or those who don't have a steady hand, relieving them of the chore of trying to apply makeup. Whatever your reason for wanting semi-permanent makeup, always check the credentials of the technician who will be performing your procedure and check they are fully insured. It is also a good idea to ask them If they have a portfolio of their work to show you.
